LO5: Be Able To Revise The Script Element Using Client Feedback




Production Plan:





Meeting:







Within the group meeting we have discussed the feedback we gained from the client on the script we have made for 'Cal Sugden A Football Journey'. And so far we as a group have come to a decision that we need to try and relate the documentary more to the target audience that we're trying to attract by trying to closely relate more to the younger audience on a assertional level whilst still enforcing the idea of it being a documentary.


Summarising The Feedback: 


We were asked to produce a script for Unit 11. Our target audience is based at males between the ages of 14 and up. You can tell that this script is based around this target audience because we've incorporated a male actor within our script for the leading role which should give the target audience the effect of an ideal self.


Have met the needs and expectations the client had set in the brief, and we've made our documentary script best suited to our target audience’s needs.



Another thing we've done that relates to the target audience is the fact that we've based this script on football for our documentary which stereotypically gains the attention of the male target audience. In terms of playing for a football club, it is a luxury due to the fact that you have to pay submission fees so this means in terms of the demographic we are aiming this at a ABC1 demographic with the exception of C2 due to the fact that you'll pay in order to play the sport.





Our client said that they liked how our documentary script appeals to the audience we've aimed the documentary at, this means our documentary script is getting the right recognition form the audience we aimed it at.



Another thing the client has told use from the feedback sheet is that we've made the script relatable, meaning that our script will be able to relate to the young target audience that we've aimed the script at.



However, the client disliked how the script did not feel as if it had a close personal relationship with the actor, meaning the audience would not feel a deep connection to him and would feel no emotional connection to him or his story.



The client wanted us to capture this feeling through going in depth on his answers after we asked him a question, in order to gain more of a sentimental answer from Cal, therefore gaining more of a connection with him as a character and a person.



The reason why it is important to do these improvements is due to the fact that is helps cement the narrative structure of the script itself by making it a more personal story which the target audience would feel a connection to emotionally and inspirationally.



We've made sure to incorporate dialogue instructions in order to inform the camera crew where we need them and what shot type they will need to use in order for us to get a successful shot when it comes to actually filming the documentary.






The writers group liked how we managed to capture the passion Cal has for football along with his YouTube channel and believe that this was possibly one of our strongest points on the script. Another thing we learned that they liked about the script was the fact that we were following him on his journey on how he used to be, to how he is this current day in terms of his football journey. Another thing that the writers group liked was the fact that we are giving the audience a personal insight onto Cal's life, they believe that this was a good idea due to the fact that it gives the audience more of an understanding of who Cal is.




When writing the script everything has to be professional, this is due to the fact that the script is going to be shared with the whole production team, meaning they need to understand everything that will be written on the script to know exactly what they’re doing within the production process of the documentary. In terms of the language of the script, it is best to keep it as formal as possible with no of slang at all, this is because the client needs to know what the script is about too in a professional order.



The house styles we’ve used for the script is the ‘Courier new’, this is because this is a font type that is easy to understand and is commonly used on a lot of scripts. The font size that we have used for our documentary script is the size 12 font, due to the fact that we would be able to fit a lot more on the pages it the font size was small in comparison to if it was big. Looking at the script you can see that we’ve laid it out in the sense of the one on one documentary where we ask the interviewee the questions and the answer to the best of their abilities. Our script pattern follows a linear motion, this means our script contain a beginning, middle and ending and it is clear from the start the direction we were heading with on the script



When it comes to the mode of address of our script we’ve tried to go for a teacher to pupil feel of the script. The reason why we’re a teacher to pupil mode of address is due to the fact that within our documentary we as the interviewer remain keeping our dialogue in a formal and professional tone, however when Cal answers our questions he is using slang which is informal dialogue and is what makes the mode of address of our script teacher to pupil.



The things that were missing from the script was shooting script conventions, we needed to add more shooting script conventions to the script. Another thing we missed out was location description within the script and transition for sound and shots.



The script in general meets the legal and ethical requirements for our documentary. From the feedback we gained from the client my group came to an understanding that we would be marketing our documentary for a BBFC rating of 12.  This is because there will be a segment on his injury and there will also be a mild case of language within the documentary. An example of 12 rated documentaries is Planet Earth, this is due to the fact that this documentary contains moderate violence which is deemed as suitable for people ages 12 and up, this is also because some of the scenes would be deemed as inappropriate for a younger audience. Copyright permission is an essential when it comes to borrowing music for the non-diegetic sound within the documentary, so we will have to obtain permission for the people that’ve created the sounds we’re looking into incorporating within our documentary, this is because we do not want to get into any legal problems where we could be fined for breaking infringement laws when using any audio without permission. Throughout the documentary Cal is going to be talking about his football career in a positive and uplifting light in order to inspire and be a role model for potential people that would like to follow his pathway in terms of football, we will not try and slander his reputation within this documentary and will not deny him of his rights within the production of this documentary.


So we don't get into any copright problems for the music we will be using, we've made sure that we will be using free music torents which allowus to use the music for free by premission of the musics creator. This helps us avoid breaking the Copy-Right laws in place. We will also be forming relase and concent forms for Cal and his friends to sign in order for us to legally have permission to record him for the documentary 'Cal Sugden A Football Joruney'.



What I have come to understand from the feedback sheet that we've received from our client is that we need to try and make the person we're documenting more interesting by trying to include stories about his journey that would be able to crete spectacle in order to create suspense among the target audience we're aiming this documentary at.

 Another thing I have come to understand is that the client would want us to try and help the audience connect on a more personal level with Cal in order for them to better relate to him and his story, by knowing what his everyday life.
